In the Edo period, young siblings Jinta and Suzune escape their abusive father, finding salvation with a family in the mountain village of Kadono. After years of training, Jinta becomes a guardian, swearing to protect the village and shrine maiden, who he harbours deep feelings for.
One day, while defeating a mighty demon, Jinta gains its powers and learns of a terrifying prophecy that in the distant future a Demon God, from his very village, will rise to power and threaten all of humanity. His family is shattered forever when Suzune discovers a dark truth and the once inseparable siblings are torn apart by evil forces.
Betrayed by his closest confidant, Jinta changes his name and travels across Japan in search of his sister and the foretold destiny he dreads but must seek. So begins a centuries-spanning odyssey of one man and his mighty sword, hunting through time to seek justice for what he’s lost and find a reason to keep on fighting.
