I’m a bit of an old codger when it comes to a lot of the popular content on YouTube. Perhaps it’s the filmmaker in me who sees silly cat videos and loud-mouthed YouTubers ‘reacting’ to something as too far a cry from what Martin Scorsese might call ‘cinema’ for me to waste my time on. However, as the years have gone by and my ‘get off my lawn’ sign has been neglected, I’ve begun to appreciate the benefits of some (not all) videos that make up the vast ocean of material on YouTube.
One such format is the ‘unboxing video’. In the past I’ve turned my nose up at these, being baffled at why anyone would be interested in watching some stranger open an item they just purchased. As my horizons have been broadened though, I’ve begun to realise they can serve a purpose. One such purpose is to show boutique Blu-ray collectors just exactly what they get in some of the more extravagant packages.
I’ve tossed the idea of making one of these videos around in my head for a while but never got around to it. Until now that is. Yes, I’ve finally cast off my snobbish attitude to unboxing videos and done one myself!
I was sent a beautifully packaged copy of 1917, one of the first in a series of releases from The Film Vault, a brand-new collector’s range featuring titles across the Warner Bros. Discovery and Universal Pictures catalogues. With striking, newly commissioned artwork based around a key scene from each of the films, and unique packaging, these limited edition 4K releases are sure to be a must-have for any serious film collector’s shelves. Each title will build towards a numbered Film Vault collection, comprising some of the greatest titles in cinema.
