Seeing as it’s one of the biggest media franchises ever, essentially positioning itself as the official brand of everything dinosaur, many expect Jurassic World Rebirth to storm to success this summer. However, the second official trailer released six weeks before the film’s theatrical debut has seen a distinct drop in views compared to the first and other Jurassic World trailer releases. So, should this be cause for concern?

A Rather Revealing Trailer

The Official Trailer 2 for Jurassic World Rebirth not only tells you basically everything that’s going to happen, but also spoils its own potentially suspenseful moments. The tense Tyrannosaurus Rex river chase scene, plucked from the original novel for this film, is basically shown in full, letting you know that none of the characters in the scene are in any kind of real peril.

Then, there’s the continuation of the ill-advised trend from the Jurassic World reboot trilogy. Now known to be the Distorus Rex, you see a lot of this freakish creation that’s meant to be scarier than dinosaurs. The director, Gareth Edwards, says that it’s meant to inspire both pity and terror, but the trailer mostly just inserts it as the next big thing chasing the cast. There’s also an extended sequence in the 2:36 trailer featuring a Mosasaurus.

In the three weeks since it was released to YouTube, the trailer amassed 5.3 million views and 128,000 likes. It shows a stark decline from the 41 million of the initial trailer released in February. However, this more likely shows a change in audience touchpoints. On TikTok, the first trailer amassed 64.8 million views, while the second has already gained 33.9 million views. There’s a huge promotional push on TikTok, which will drive ticket sales.

Is Jurassic World Rebirth Poised to Make $1bn?

Jurassic World Rebirth is fully expected to break the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. A lot of this is through momentum gained by the affection for the original trilogy. Jurassic Park is legendary and has a massive footprint in just about every corner of entertainment. There are the films, the retro video games that were recently remastered, the Evolution park-builder games that remain popular, an animated show, and slots.

The appeal of the Jurassic Park brand remains very strong with older audiences, as shown by the prominence of the Jurassic Park slots at online casinos. People can collect the casino welcome bonus to use the free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, and then the bonus funds on the Jurassic Park slot and the game tied to the daily jackpots. The popularity of these games over the many other branded slots showcases the enduring appeal of the setting.

This will help the new movie, and despite the stark decline through the reboot trilogy from a very nostalgia-driven first entry, all three made it past $1 billion. Adding some extra filler to the cracks of the Jurassic World storyline is the new cast. On paper, it is arguably the best in the series to date, with Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali headlining.

Given the size of the appeal of the premise and the strength of the CGI, Jurassic World Rebirth will almost certainly start July off with a bang. That momentum has onlookers optimistic, as it should carry the masses into Superman a week later, and then Happy Gilmore 2 or Fantastic Four: The First Steps after that. This string of releases will create competition for Jurassic World Rebirth, so it’ll be interesting to see which release ultimately triumphs.
