Right from the first scene Prevenge is creepy, gory and funny. This tone continues throughout the film which has Alice Lowe being perfectly and brilliantly mental and also worryingly heavily pregnant.
Alice plays Ruth, pregnant and psychopathic she is hell bent on a killing spree directed by her unborn baby. Bringing to attention the feeling many newly pregnant women have of being out of control of your own body and being taken over by a baby but taken to the extreme. In almost every scene Alice does dark comedy with aplomb and this her first feature as sole writer and director is an absolute triumph. Her deadpan delivery is her trademark and Lowe doesn’t disappoint. With a great supporting cast and an atmospheric electro soundtrack reminiscent of 80s John Carpenter this film is not for the faint hearted with outright gore sitting alongside slapstick fight scenes.
Prevenge will be released by Kaleidoscope Entertainment on February 10th 2017 in select cinemas around the UK.
