The King's Speech has won the main prize at the Toronto Film Festival. The film stars Colin Firth as King George VI and follows the stammering monarch as he prepares for war.

The film picked up the People's Choice award, voted for by film fans, it is the main prize at the festival. Previous winners, which include Slumdog millionaire and Precious, have gone on to great achieve success at the Oscars.

The Toronto Film Festival is the largest film festival in North America, but does not award jury prizes.

The runner-up for the People's Choice was Justin Chadwick's The First Grader.
