It's approaching October and you know what that means - the horror movies and horror festivals come out in force. One of my favourites over the last few years has been Celluloid Screams. As well as the obvious bonus that it's based over in Sheffield (only half an hour away from my parents, so I get free accommodation), they also seem to pick a selection of films well suited to my tastes. I love a good horror movie, but the torture porn genre does nothing for me (other than make me want to vomit) and Celluloid Screams seems to share my dislike for these as they haven't forced any upon me yet. They also throw in some great retro screenings and plenty of guest appearances.

Well, Celluloid Screams is back. Running from 26-28th October at the Showroom Cinema as usual, the festival lineup looks as strong as ever with plenty of UK premieres, classic screenings and guests.

Ben Wheatley's Sightseers kicks things off on Friday night, possibly with a Q&A with the director himself (although some pages of the site don't mention this so it might not be confirmed). Popular anthology film V/H/S is being shown too as well as a screening of the rare Cabal Cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed and Dario Argento's Opera. There's also a 'secret film' on Saturday, which won't be revealed until the time of the screening - this is usually something special though. In the past the secret film has been an 'unofficial' UK premiere of Paranormal Activity and a screening of the brilliant Snowtown. Proceedings draw to a close on Sunday with Sundance favourite Excision.

Head over to the Celluloid Screams website for more information on the festival and head over to the Showroom website to book yourself tickets or a full festival pass.
