I’ve only actually seen Tree of Life and The Artist out of those best picture nominees so I’m not going to vote until I’ve at least tried to see one or two more. I’m definitely going to be catching The Descendants in the next week or two.

Yeah, i can add midnight in paris to that but it’s a tough call… Tree of life over The Artist, Dave?

anyone seen My Week with Marilyn?? i was surprised at Michelle Williams…

I’m not surprised by Michelle Williams – she’s a great actress and The Oscars love biopics like that especially for performances.

I’d put Tree of Life over The Artist. The Artist was more entertaining, but Tree of Life had more impact on me and I’m more interested in watching that again.

I’ve seen5 of it them, will watch more on the plane on the way home.

What did you make of the artist dave and Lyndsey? Disappointing? Amazing? Out of that I probably would go for Artist; but I hope Descendants or/and Moneyball are better than it! Anything is better than the kings speech though!!

    Also, I think you’re missing a film, there’s only 9.

And how the fuck did that 911 film get nominated?!

You should listen to our podcast to find out 🙂

Nah, I really enjoyed the Artist. It’s very slight, but charming and enjoyable. There are some great scenes in there. It’s not my favourite film of last year, but I won’t be complaining if it bags most of the awards.

There are only 9 this year. They must have been struggling for choices putting stuff like War Horse and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close in the list. They’ve had pretty weak reviews especially the latter.

Of the nine nominees I want The Artist to win, but I wouldn’t be hugely disappointed if Hugo pips it as they were respectively my second and third favourite films of last year (my favourite, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” is shamefully not nominated for best picture and though it’s great that Gary Oldman is finally up for best actor it’s no excuse on the Academy’s part).

I think it looks a pretty weak list of 9 films on paper. I’ve only seen 4 so far though. Hugo good in places, but made me wish I was watching La voyage dans la lune instead. I saw it for the first time at LFF last year and it’s superb! Midnight in Paris is entertaining for the duration, and I enjoyed The Artist but it could never live up to the ridiculous hyperbole. The Tree of Life was pretty much unwatchable! If The Descendants is even half as good as Sideways then that’ll be the one to beat!!

One of the most interesting categories is Animated film with no Pixar film in contention. Come on Rango!
